Kirtish Bhatt

Indian Political Cartoonist, Illustrator & Satirical Artist

Creator of Bamulahija and cartoonist whose work focuses on politics, current affairs, society, media and everyday life.

About Kirtish Bhatt

Welcome to Bamulahija, the official portfolio and commentary space of Kirtish Bhatt, an Indian cartoonist, illustrator and satirical artist.

I was born in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, and my journey as a cartoonist began with freelancing before I started working professionally with newspapers.

In 1999, I began my newspaper cartooning career with Chautha Sansar, an Indore-based Hindi newspaper. This was the beginning of a journey that has now spanned more than two decades.

From 2007 to 2015, I worked as a cartoonist with NaiDunia, Indore, where I continued to develop my style of editorial cartooning and visual satire.

Since 2015, I have been working with the BBC in Delhi, creating cartoons and illustrations around news, politics, society and everyday issues. Over the years, cartooning has given me the opportunity to observe changing times and express complicated ideas through a single drawing.

The Philosophy Behind "Bamulahija"

The name Ba-Mulahiza comes from the traditional Urdu expression “Ba-mulahiza”, meaning with due attention, consideration or respect.

For me, the name reflects the way I approach cartooning—looking closely at what is happening around us and finding the irony, humour and human side hidden within it.

Bamulahija is a space where I share my cartoons, illustrations and occasional commentary on current affairs, society, culture and everyday life.

Cartooning & Editorial Work

My work covers Indian politics, elections, public affairs, economy, media, sports, international events, society and everyday life. I use editorial cartooning and visual satire to comment on current events and communicate complex ideas through humour and visual metaphor.
